Megan Lynn Waskin

Megan Lynn Waskin is a doctorally prepared, board-certified, family nurse practitioner. She received all four of her degrees from the University of Florida and is a proud Gator alumnus! Megan worked as an ICU nurse at Shands Hospital while completing her masters and doctorate. What is a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy)?

A DO or Doctor of Osteopathy is a medical doctor who went to osteopathic medical school. DOs believe in a "whole person" approach to medicine, treating the entire body as opposed to just a symptom, disease, or body system. They also received extra training in the musculoskeletal system and can use osteopathic manipulation to ease physical ailments.

What is an NP (Nurse Practitioner)?

A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse who has gone back to school for advanced training in order to provide medical care to patients. They receive a master's or doctoral degree and undergo rigorous national certification in their area of practice or expertise, periodic peer reviews, and clinical outcome evaluations. They can prescribe medications, examine patients, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment. Depending on what state you live in, nurse practitioners may have "full practice authority" and practice independently, or have some restrictions (such as in Florida) and work with a supervising physician.
